1) ‘Governor’s Girls Volleyball Mission, 2020-21’

In a move to empower girls through sports, Raj Bhavan Assam under the leadership of the former Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi launched Governor’s Girls Volleyball Mission, 2020-21’.It may be noted that under the Mission volleyball kits have been distributed to 5453 selected schools of the state to promote volleyball among the girl students. The Mission is a joint initiative of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Education Department and Panchayat and Rural Development Department.

It may be noted that the Governor adopted the Girls Volleyball game considering the popularity of the game in the rural areas. Accordingly, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare has taken up the programme of ‘Governor’s Girls Volleyball Mission’. It may also be mentioned that the Education department has selected a total of 5453 schools on the basis of availability of playgrounds and considering the enrolment of a minimum 20 girl students. The Panchayat and Rural Development department has engaged itself with the Mission to develop the volleyball playgrounds in these selected schools in convergence with MGNREGA scheme. The Sports and Youth Welfare Department will provide the volleyball sports kits for the selected schools. Volleyball coach trainers will also be deputed in collaboration with the local Volleyball Associations for training the girls students.

It is to inform that Barpeta district clinched the Governor's Girls Volleyball Mission Trophy 2022 beating its arch rival Sonitpur district at the final held in DTRP indoor stadium on September 21, 2022.

 

2) Raj Bhavan adopts Morigaon district for promotion of Agriculture and allied activities

With an aim to develop agriculture and to use it for the socio-economic development of the people of the state, Raj Bhavan, Assam under the leadership of former Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi adopted Morigaon district for development of agriculture and allied activities. A series of meetings were held with the heads of agriculture and allied departments like irrigation, horticulture, sericulture, piggery, poultry and fishery for proper coordination, to decide on the modus operandi for implementing the scheme of things. Governor Prof. Mukhi also sought a detailed report from the respective departments to take the project off.

It may be noted that the Governor has taken the inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream programme of doubling the income of farmers by 2022. Worth mentioning that the Raj Bhavan, Assam under the guidance and leadership of the Governor adopted Morigaon district with an intention to make it a model for the other districts to emulate.

During the visit of the Governor to Morigaon district the Governor had undertaken a series of activities and visited at Golechepa Goatery farm. He also attended programme at Quzari and interacted with farmers and weavers on eri seed production. He visited Pobitora Hut and attended the training programme of Animal Husbandary and Veterinary sector for development of cattle and goat rearing. Further he attended fishery training centre at Kalabithika and witnessed programme on piggery and poultry farming in Veterinary campus.

The Governor also distributed power tillers, rickshaws (Dip Bahan) vans for carrying agricultural goods, electric water pumps, hand compression sprayers and mini seed kit to the beneficiaries at subsidized rates.

The Raj Bhavan Assam adopted Morigaon District w.e.f. 3rd August, 2019 for development of Agriculture and Allied Sectors with an aim to double the income of the farmers. Various schemes both central and state sectors are implemented by agriculture and allied departments for uplifting the economic status of poor farm families of the district from 2019-20 onwards and special attention has been given for doubling the farmers income by 2023-24.

A 5(five) year action plan has been formulated for development of Agriculture and allied activities with various schemes being taken up by Agriculture Department, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Handloom & Textile, Fishery, Sericulture, Irrigation, ASRLM etc for increase of production, yield etc to increase the income of the farmers. The implementation of the schemes were affected during the period of lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic and problems caused by flood. The Morigaon District Administration urged all the departments to establish synergy and convergence amongst themselves so as to bring the efforts back on track and carry out the developmental and welfare work in the district. The works have now been resumed and expedited to achieve the targets set for the current year.

 

3) Raj Bhavan Assam, a eco-friendly zone

With an aim to achieving objectives of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and reduce the impact of waste on environment, Raj Bhavan Assam under the leadership of Former Governor Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi launched the implementation of Zero Waste management for the in Raj Bhavan Campus at a programme held in Raj Bhavan on October 2. Titled ‘The Raj Bhavan Assam- a Zero waste Campus’ it is an approach for holistic assessment of solid and liquid wastes, their management, gap analysis, formulation and implementation of standard waste management procedure for achieving a zero waste campus at Raj Bhavan, Assam.

It may be noted that the project has been conceptualised by Raj Bhavan under the initiative of Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and under the technical support of The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) as an implementation agency and knowledge and technical partner.

Launching, the project the Governor said that a fitting tribute can be paid to Gandhiji only when every individual develops the sense of hygiene and shoulders the responsibility of keeping his surroundings clean. The project is being implemented as a part of Raj Bhavan’s efforts to adopt a system for preventing pollution and avoid costs associated with landfill disposal. The initiative will also reduce carbon emissions by diverting the discarded materials from methane-generating landfills and avoiding carbon emissions associated with extracting, processing, and transporting raw materials and waste. The R principles- Reduce, Recycle, Recovery and Reuse are the tools to be used in the implementation of zero waste management being implemented in the Raj Bhavan.

It is a first of its kind of zero waste campus which was implemented in Raj Bhavan, Assam to manage solid and liquid waste and demonstrate the responsibility of Raj Bhavan towards effective planning, execution and monitoring mechanism for cleaner and lively environment. This will be a model for other residential and institutional campus for replication and adoption of the technologies for cleaner and zero waste campuses.

Besides, a zero-waste campus principle-based waste management activity is put in place to demonstrate a cleaner and greener campus by holistic assessment of solid and liquid waste generation, gap analysis and formulation and implementation of standard waste management procedure for achieving a zero-waste campus in Raj Bhavan, Assam.

By implementing a Zero Waste Campus approach, Raj Bhavan, Assam is significantly decrease its impact on environment and will also showcase the aim towards the objectives of Swachh Bharat. A detailed study have been carried out in the Raj Bhavan and its associated areas such as Security campus, staff quarters and lawn areas to assess the sources of solid and liquid waste.

For the success of any mission, involvement of informed and educated class of people is of paramount importance. Therefore, Raj Bhavan Assam has taken a series of steps for information education and communication (IEC) to the people residing in Raj Bhavan campus and the people visiting the campus about the process of waste management, parameters, role of individuals, communities and institution at large. Further, hands on training is being conducted for waste workers.

 

4) The statue of Dr. Rajendra Prasad at Raj Bhavan

Raj Bhavan, Assam under the leadership of former Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi unveiled a life-sized statue of the first President of the nation Bharat Ratna Dr Rajendra Prasad in presence of Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, First Lady of the State, Smt Prem Mukhi, granddaughter of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Smt. Tara Sinha, Riniki Bhuyan in Raj Bhavan on 3rd December 2021.

Unveiling the statue at a function held on the occasion of the 137th birth anniversary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad today, the Governor narrated the instrumental role of Dr.Rajendra Prasad in India’s freedom struggle and in framing the constitution. He also said that he was a source of inspiration to every citizen of this great nation and his distinguished contributions in nation building, his legal acumen and his noble ideals on democracy will continue to inspire the countrymen. He further said that he was an ideal leader and is an inspiration to many leaders. His humbleness and erudition will always be an inspiration for the younger generation.

 

5) Digital Library

The library stands as a profound cornerstone for any institution, bearing testament to its commitment to knowledge and intellectual growth. Raj Bhavan Assam, a revered establishment, has been bestowed with the privilege of housing its inaugural digital library, an achievement attributed to the leadership of the former Hon’ble Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, on 19th of December, 2019. Situated on the pinnacle floor of the Governor's Secretariat, this literary haven boasts an extensive collection of books spanning a multitude of genres, each an embodiment of enlightenment and insight.

The profound significance of this bibliophilic sanctuary lies not only in its accessibility to every employee of the institution, but also in its generous provision of knowledge to other officials of the Government of Assam, who can avail themselves of its invaluable resources by acquiring membership privileges at the Raj Bhavan Library.

 

6) Surya Namaskaram Statues and Brahmaputra recreational Park:

Yoga, the extraordinary gift bestowed upon the world by India, has undeniably secured a prominent position on the global stage, showcasing the profound cultural heritage of this nation in the international forum. In an endeavor to etch its worldwide significance in the very essence of Raj Bhavan, the former Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, ceremoniously inaugurated the magnificent statues of Surya Namaskaram on the day of May 29, 2021. These statues, resplendent with intricate 12 types of Suryanamaskaram asanas, effortlessly captivate the attention of each and every visitor who sets foot within the premises of Raj Bhavan. This distinguished installation serves as paying homage to the rich cultural legacy of India, and adds an invaluable gem to the treasure trove that is Raj Bhavan.

On this very day, the Governor, ceremoniously inaugurated the Brahmaputra Recreational Park. As its name resonates, this exquisite park pays homage to the lifeblood of Assam, the majestic Brahmaputra River. The park, with its refreshing zephyrs and panoramic vistas of the resplendent Brahmaputra, stands as a testament to leisure and tranquility, beckoning employees of Raj Bhavan to immerse themselves in its enchanting embrace during their cherished moments of respite.
