Roles of Honourable Governor in Universities

State universities are established through laws passed by state legislatures. In most laws, the Governor is designated as the Chancellor of these universities. The Chancellor functions as the head of the university and appoints the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
The Hon’ble Governor of Assam as Chancellor, exercises powers in accordance with the provisions outlined in the respective Acts and Statutes of the University. The State of Assam has 18 State Universities and two Central Universities. Among these, the Governor holds the position of Chancellor in sixteen State Universities, one Central University and Chief Rector in another Central University.
Furthermore, The Governor is the Visitor in nine private Universities in the State of Assam. Roles and responsibilities of the Governor as Chancellors, Chief Rector and Visitors in different universities are defined in the university Acts and Statutes.
